CANCELLATION POLICY

Conference fees will be fully refunded provided that the cancellation request is received no later than 30 April 2017. Cancellations occurring between 1 May to 31 May 2017 will be refunded 50%. No refunds will be given after 31 May 2017. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to the offical workshop e-mail: ecs4@chem.uw.edu.pl. Note the hotel cancellation policy is different.

FREEDOM POLICY STATEMENT

The organizers of the ECS4, shall observe the basic policy of non-discrimination and affirms the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as ethnic origin, religion, citizenship, language, political stance, gender, sex or age, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this meeting no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.

Travel

Visa:

Since 1st May 2004, the Republic of Poland has been applying the European Union’s Common Visa Policy. According to the decision of the Government of the Republic of Poland, all aliens who are holders of valid Schengen documents.


Please note that citizens of some countries outside the European Union need to have a visa to enter the Republic of Poland. Participants who need a visa to visit Poland are advised to apply at a Polish consulate well in advance (you can find the list of Polish consulates under the following link). If you need an invitation from the ESC4 Organisers in order to apply for a visa, please write to ecs4@chem.uw.edu.pl. Please note that invitations will be issued only after your payment is received. Please also note the ECS4 Organisers cannot assist at any stage of your visa application process.

Arriving by plane to Warsaw CHOPIN Airport:

Warsaw is served mainly by the Frederic Chopin Airport located within the city limits, 10 km from the city centre. Bus lines number 148, 175 and 188, and a train line S2 connect the airport with the nearby residential districts and the city centre (see Google.Maps).


   Bus – The best way to get to the city centre is to take bus number 175 from the airport. Trip to the Central Railway Station (located at the city centre) takes about 28 min (you have to get off at the stop "Dworzec Centralny") (see Google.Maps).


To get to the conference site you have to get off the bus at the stop "Uniwersytet" (around 40 min from Terminal 2 at the airport, depending on the traffic). For more information about the tariff in the public transport see below (you can also access the Public Transport Authority webpage).


Hotels “Gromada Centrum” (bus stop: "Ordynacka") (see Google.Maps) and “Novotel Warszawa Centrum” (bus stop "Centrum") can be reached by bus number 175 (see Google.Maps), while the UW Dormitory no. 4 in Zamenhofa Street can be reached by taking bus number 175 to the stop "Centrum", and then changing there to tram number 15, 35 or 18 (stop "Muranów") (see Google.Maps).

Please note that pickpocketers tend to be an issue on airport buses.

   Train – Another way of reaching the city centre is by train line S2. The train station is very close to the terminals and it can be found by following the signs there. The station located in the centre is called "Warszawa Śródmieście", it takes about 30 minutes to get there from the airport. In order to reach the conference site from the center, you need to take bus 175, 128 or 518 at the stop "Centrum" (approximately 10 minutes). Train tariffs are the same as in the buses, see below.


   Taxi – Taxis are available directly at the exit doors of all terminals (transport offered by unauthorized persons is neither cheap nor safe). Taxi prices vary between the companies (2 – 3 PLN/km day rate, with 50% late night and weekend surcharge). Taxis can also be ordered by phone: +48 22 19191 (MPT Taxi), +48 22 6777777 (Merc Taxi), +48 22 6444444 (Sawa Taxi).

Arriving by plane to Warsaw MODLIN Airport:

In the neighbourhood of Warsaw, 35 km from the city, there is also Modlin Airport, where more low fare airlines operate. Getting from the Modlin Airport to the center of Warsaw takes about 45 minutes. To reach the city centre you can take a shuttle bus from the airport, a train (but then you also have to take a bus to get to the train station) or a taxi.


   Shuttle bus – Shuttle bus connection costs around 28 PLN one way. Tickets can be purchased online, at the airport or on the bus. The bus stops in the city centre, next to the Palace of Culture and Science. To get to the conference site from there, you need to walk to the bus stop "Centrum" and take bus number 175, 128 or 518 and get off at the stop "Uniwersytet" (this trip takes approximately 10 minutes).

Please note that pickpocketers tend to be an issue on airport buses.

   Train – Train connection costs 20 PLN one way. First, you have to reach the train station by bus (5 PLN), and then take a train (15 PLN). The busses and trains are synchronised, and the schedule can be found here. The train stops at the central station (“Warszawa Centralna”). To get to the conference site from there you should take bus number 175, 128 or 518 at the stop "Dworzec Centralny" and get off at the stop "Uniwersytet" (this trip takes approximately 8 minutes) (see Google.Maps).


   Taxi – You can also take a taxi. There are two companies approved by the airport: Sawa Taxi and Taxi Modlin. Travel fares from the airport to the city are fixed in these companies. A trip from Modlin Airport to the city center costs (6 a.m. – 12 a.m.) 159 PLN and takes 35-40 minutes.

Arriving by train:

Warsaw Central Railway Station (Polish "Warszawa Centralna") is located in the city centre, with many bus and tram routes connecting it directly with all parts of the city. Buses number 175, 128 and 518 go directly to the conference site. The trip takes about 12 minutes. Taxi stand can be found by following signs on the platforms and along the underground passages.

Public transportation:

Public transport in Warsaw consists of buses, trams, two underground lines and commuter trains, to all of which the same tariff applies. Tickets can be purchased in vending machines located at the stops, at newsstands, vending machines in selected busses and trams (especially those going to and from the airport) or from the driver (exact amount of money is needed). The tickets must be validated as soon as possible at the beginning of the journey. The following ticket information may also be useful:


Single fare ticket (4.40 PLN): entitles to an unlimited number of journeys for a period not exceeding 75 minutes from its validation or to a single journey to a stop or station which is the last on the route (this ticket may be useful for the connection between the airport and the city center).

20-minute ticket (3.40 PLN): entitles to unlimited number of journeys within 20 minutes from its validation.

1-day ticket (15.00 PLN): entitles to unlimited number of journeys for 24 hours from its validation.

Weekend ticket (24.00 PLN): entitles to unlimited number of journeys from 7:00 PM on Friday till 8:00 AM on Monday.

Group weekend ticket (40.00 PLN): entitles a group of up to 5 people to unlimited number of journeys from 7:00 PM on Friday till 8:00 AM on Monday.
